Evaluation: How did you use new technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

I used new technologies in the research for our music video for Paramore – Misery Business, Google was the first source of new technology I used, after deciding as a group we wanted to produce a music video we went onto the Internet to research different genres and the songs we could pick. After collecting song ideas we then scanned YouTube to see what kind of videos had been produced for each song as well as familiarizing ourselves with the song again. When we had chosen our song, I used Adobe Photoshop to experiment with potential band logos that would represent our brand of Paramore, as well as using Google to research previous band logos to find out what was conventional of a rock logo.  New technology was also useful when researching elements such as mise en scene of the rock genre, enabling me and the rest of the group to develop a deep knowledge of the costume and location we would need to produce this video.

New technology was a key element when researching for my ancillary tasks, it enabled me to use the Internet to research the codes and conventions for both rock as a genre and of a tour digipak and magazine advertisement. I studied and analyzed tour posters by Green Day and Dragon Force as well as adverts for new albums from Pulled Apart By Horses and The Killers, looking at existing products helped me collect ideas of how I did and did not want my finished products to look.

The planning of my music video used new technology such as simple Microsoft Word documents to construct elements such as our production schedule. We also used a lot of YouTube to take details such as shot time from music videos, when looking at the official Paramore – Misery Business music video the shots were not longer than 2 seconds long because it is a very fast paced song.  We also made various video blogs of the examples of shots we planned to incorporate within the video as well as presenting our pitch of music video to our teachers and explaining what we had achieved so far. I also used new technologies when planning my ancillary tasks, I was able to hand draw my drafts in detail making notes and analyzing them before scanning them onto the computer through Adobe Photoshop.

New technologies were used the most during the development of our music video; I used a film camera as well as various other camera equipment such as the tracking system, jib, steadicam, dolly and tripod. I used Premier Pro to edit the footage that we filmed in the drama studio, this new technology enabled us to make a draft video to upload to YouTube for feedback. Facebook and Skype were used in the development of our music video, this enabled us to have group discussions and communicate when we were outside of school. Video blogs were also used in the process of my development for the video, showing behind the scenes of our filming as well as video rushes of the footage we captured. The development of my ancillary tasks involved new technologies, I used Adobe Photoshop to develop my first drafts of my ancillary tasks, I edited my photographs enabling me to transform them into products through Adobe Indesign.

New technology played an important part in evaluating my work for both ancillary and video, we as a group made video blogs talking to our peers about our work, giving us feedback and their opinions on what we had produced. We had a creative arts evening at school where we recorded some of those who attended on their opinions to help us critique our work where necessary.
